Where to Eat

There are a large number of Mexican Restaurants in town and every local has a different favorite place to recommend. We followed the local aviators' routine and ate breakfast at the West End Cafe. There, we ran into a local pilot or two when we sampled the friendly atmosphere and sandwiches, pancakes, and homemade donuts.

Also on the south side of Route 66, the Ranch Kitchen first opened in 1954. Here you can continue the All-American Route 66 theme by enjoying ranch-style cooking with generous portions of steak and other broiled or grilled dishes while enjoying the sunset from a patio table. Open 7 a.m. - 9 p.m. (505) 722-2537.

For the ultimate Route 66 ritual, try the Eagle Cafe and step back into the 1950's. You can imagine Bobby Troup screeching to a halt in his Mercury and entering the cafe to sit down for a cup of coffee and check out the crowd.
