Most tour costs are payable prior to departure from your home country. Others are payable after your arrival. Tour costs exclude personal costs such as telephone calls, purchases of artifacts, optional excursions, visas, travel insurance, gratuities, and meals not included in the itinerary.

Tour Costs

Basic Tour Costs are all payable before the tour commences and your initial deposit is a portion of this amount. These costs apply per participant on the tour, whether or not this person is a pilot. The Basic Tour Cost is discounted from full price for Pilot Getaways subscribers who place a deposit by March 31, 2000.

Pre-Paid Costs:

  • Basic Tour Cost: $5,350 per person (Pilot Getaways discount until March 31, 2000)

  • $5,450 per person (If booked April 1 - May 2, 2000)

  • $5,650 per person (Full price if booked after May 3, 2000)

Basic cost includes:

  • Meet and greet at Cape Town International Airport

  • Tour guiding and escorting

  • Vintage airliner flight from Cape Town to Johannesburg

  • Escort aircraft and crew while on Self-Fly Safari® portion of the tour

  • 18 days accommodation with private bathroom at hotels, lodges, and safari camps

  • Service charges and taxes

  • All meals as stated in the itinerary

  • All game viewing activities including day and night driving and bush hiking

  • Transfers as required by the tour

  • Excursions and activities as per the itinerary

  • Hosting at functions

Aircraft Prepaid Costs are payable before the tour commences and are applicable to the validating pilot and the rental aircraft he/she will be traveling in during the Self-Fly Safari® portion. These will vary according to what type of aircraft is rented.

Aircraft prepaid costs include:

  • Aircraft rental (11 days @ 2 hrs per day)2

  • Air law test, ATC briefings & Flight briefings

  • CAA & SATRA validation fees

  • Cockpit Trip Kit, charts and airports directory

  • Disbursements and courier costs

  • Use of survival and medical kit

  • Approach, landing, passenger, en route, parking, and ATNS fees

  • Pilots excess insurance (deductible) on aircraft

Pilots must be current in preferred aircraft before arrival in South Africa, i.e. be able to show sign-off and time in specific aircraft in logbook.

Notes:

1. The number of people in a plane has been determined by issues of loading and density altitude. Sharing costs of aircraft among occupants is up to the pilot.

2. All aircraft carry a 2 hrs demurage per day. Twenty-two hours is adequate for all aircraft to complete the route. Flying time over 22 hours will be charged accordingly upon returning from the Self-Fly Safari®.
