Important Announcement: Pilot Getaways Puts Print Magazine on Hiatus

Two-thousand eighteen marks a very special time for Airventure Publishing. It was 20 years ago that brothers John and George Kounis launched Pilot Getaways, a brand new national travel magazine for aviators. Our readers immediately embraced it, and because of you, our subscribers, Pilot Getaways was propelled into the hearts and minds of the aviation community. As you well know, the unexpected loss of John, our cofounder and editor-in-chief, in 2015 has certainly been no small challenge for this business. Now, after two decades of publishing, we have decided to take a hiatus from new issue production. Throughout this year, we will be upgrading our systems and product offerings and forming a new, more appropriate business model for our changing industry and technology.

We will also take this opportunity to collect new, interesting, and unique content in preparation for our anticipated 2019 print production relaunch and product overhaul. To assist in this purpose, Pilot Getaways is teaming up with Adventure Above, an aviation media production company featuring a young couple, Kyle and Samantha, as they fly through all 50 states while documenting their experience. This effort, established to encourage the growth of aviation nationwide, is set to launch from Sun ’n Fun in April. You will be able to follow Kyle and Sam on our Facebook and other social media.

If you are a subscriber, rest assured, your Pilot Getaways subscription will remain intact throughout the hiatus and will resume where it left off upon our relaunch. As part of our 20th anniversary celebration, we are producing a culminating volume of destination history, featuring the best of 20 years of Pilot Getaways articles and photos, as well as a few new ones. This cherished collection will be sent later this year as a free bonus to every subscriber, completely separate from your active subscription. In addition, during the hiatus, we will be bringing back our featured Pilot Getaways e-newsletter, as well as a number of digital content offerings.

We appreciate your business and regret any inconveniences caused by our restructure. We feel the effort is in the best interests of the magazine and our subscribers. We welcome any feedback throughout this process and will do everything we can to make it as seamless as possible. Please feel free to contact us with any questions or concerns.

Many of our subscribers frequently tell us how much they love our magazine. We can’t wait to reveal a Pilot Getaways you can love even more!
